Feign ignorance to find out truth
Dr Kapil Kakar
To become more aware about our surroundings deliberate ignorance is an important tool which helps us comprehend myriad things, says Dr Kapil Kakar
We all wear different masks throughout the day. For instance, mask of a senior, subordinate, father, son, etc. While wearing different masks one tends to portray the best image in front of others to make a good impression. This is when the question of authenticity arises. Most misunderstandings and strife occurs when people tend to disregard what they have inside them and say what the other person wants to listen consciously or unconsciously, indulging in sycophancy. Deliberate ignorance helps one surface the truth and act accordingly, minimizing chances of mistrust. This brings transparency between two persons and strengthens relationship.
Show ignorance
Deliberate ignorance is achieved by being oblivious of things around. In certain situation it is a winning approach. As when, one provides such stimulus the other person starts feeling more comfortable and begins to behave the way s/he truly is. This makes the other individual more comfortable and subsist in natural self.
Probe
Probing others gives them chance to speak more and thereby helps in receiving more information. Ask as many questions. This allows the other person to speak, and helps in being curious enough to gather more inputs and information enabling self, to evaluate the genuineness of what is being said and done.
Listen more
One should avoid falling into the trap of talking more and listening less. Deliberate ignorance endorses silence and encourages the other person to talk more. Moreover, God has given one mouth and two ears clearly asking us to listen twice more than one speaks.
Divergent thinking
Deliberate ignorance opens the realms of possibilities and creativity as it pushes one to the extent of transcending self to the limitless, thus helping in viewing things as a whole. In turn, it makes one think more creatively and helps in better evaluation.
To become more aware about our surroundings deliberate ignorance is an important tool which helps us comprehend myriad things, which otherwise we would have remain oblivious about.
